Torodd Wigum is born in Trondheim, Norway in 1970. From beginning of 2010 he is Artistic Director of the Trondheim Sinfonietta, a comtemporary music group he has worked regularly with over the last years. With this ensemble he has performed music by and worked with composers like Steve Reich, George Crumb, Rolf Wallin, Jon Øivind Ness and Osvaldo Golijov.
From January 2007 to August 2009 Torodd Wigum was assistant conductor with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Andrew Litton. During this period he was given the opportunity to conduct a lot of concerts, and he worked a.o. with soloists like Helene Grimaud, Angelika Kirchschlager and Freddy Kempf.
Recent and forthcoming engagements include Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the symphony orchestras in Trondheim, Stavanger, Kristiansand and Tromsø, Trondheim Sinfonietta, Bodø Sinfonietta, the Trondheim Soloists, BIT20 Ensemble, the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra, Liepaja Symphony Orchestra (Latvia), the Moldavian National Philharmonic Orchestra and several of the norwegian military bands.
As an active participant at ”Neeme Järvi Summer Academy” in 2004, Torodd Wigum conducted concerts with Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the Pärnu City Orchestra. He has also participated in Master-Classes with Jorma Panula and Paavo Järvi.
Torodd Wigum studied the viola at Trøndelag Musikkonservatorium and the Norwegian Academy of music. Still a student he was appointed as principal viola in the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for six years. At the same time he was the solo viola in the Trondheim Soloists, a chamber orchestra which has worked with a.o. Anne-Sophie Mutter, Leif Ove Andsnes, Ole Edvard Antonsen, Joshua Bell and Jon Lord.
